Benefits of membership
Members of HSI can use suffixes for different categories of membership such as FHSI for Fellow, MHSI for Member, AHSI for Associate and CHSI for institutional or corporate members.
- HSI organises conferences, seminars, speaker meetings and other events to which members are invited at preferential rates.
- HSI’s Journal is published four times per year. All members have free access to the electronic edition published on the internet and shall receive monthly email newsbrief with the latest updates and roundups. If you are not already receiving it please contact us to request your copy.

Eligibility for Membership
Membership of the Hygiene Standard Institute is open to all people around the world who support our aims and objectives. These are:
All HSI Members are bound by our Code of Conduct and are required to agree to this when they complete their application to be elected as a Member.
Election to Membership depends on your qualifications and experience. All of your academic and professional education, training and experience will be considered in your application for Membership.

Please note that the statements below are general guidelines for eligibility. Each application is considered on its own individual merits. The final decision on elections to Membership rests with the Administrative Council of HSI. These statements do not form part of a contract and election to Membership is not guaranteed to any applicant.
If you have:
a career in a health-related field (including medicine, dentistry, psychiatry, nursing, veterinary surgery, pharmacy and health education) AND
a UK Masters degree, or equivalent, which you have held for 3 years or more OR
a UK Bachelors degree, or equivalent, which you have held for 5 years or more
You are eligible to become a Fellow.
If you have:
a UK Bachelors degree, or equivalent, obtained during the last 5 years OR
a UK Masters degree, or equivalent, obtained during the last 3 years OR
registration as a nurse or other health-related professional, OR
a BTEC HND OR
a Diploma awarded by the Hygiene Standard institute
You are eligible to become a Member.
If you have:
a professional interest in a health-related field OR
a BTEC Certificate or Diploma OR
paramedical qualifications OR
a Certificate awarded by the Hygiene Standard institute
You are eligible to become an Associate.
Institutional Membership of the Hygiene Standard Institute
Institutional Membership of HSI is open to:
Charities, voluntary organisations and NGOs, University departments, faculties and research centres, Libraries and archives, Primary Care Trusts, Hospital Trusts and other NHS organisations, Schools and Colleges, Local authorities and statutory bodies. Institutional Membership of HSI is not open to all kind of business or corporate organisation and inclusion solely depend on the discretion of HSI.
